Monthly Meeting of Mountain Lodge No 766

Mountain Lodge No. 766 F & M, Spencer will meet the first Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. (behind the Burritt Memorial Library Building). All Master Masons are invited.

Assistant D.A. Schedules Meetings in VBC

Assistant D.A. Randall Gilliam will be at the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department every second and fourth Thursday after General Sessions Court (after the lunch hour) until 4 p.m. He will be available to answer or assist with any criminal issues or procedures.

American Legion Post 207 Meeting in Spencer

The American Legion Post 207 meets every 3 rd Thursday of the month at 6 p. in the Spencer Civic Center. All veterans are invited. For more information, please call 686-7759.

Valentine’s Day Dance and Party

There will be a Valentine’s Party in the Spencer Civic Center, on Saturday, February 13, 2010, from 7-10 p.m. Admission, $5, children 12 and under free. Bring a covered dish and a friendly drink. Live Band and Dancing! For good family fun and more laughs than two barrels of monkeys, come on out and enjoy the evening.

Cedar Grove Monthly Supper Set

The Cedar Grove Monthly Supper will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2010, beginning at 5 p.m. Meal will include roast beef, veggies, deserts, rolls, drinks, $6. Rook Tournament begins at 7 p.m.

Bluegrass Concert on Rocky River

Bluegrass Concerts on Rocky River presents Valleygrass Express and Hub City Bluegrass, on February 27, 2010. Music begins at 7, with kitchen opening at 5. Adults $5, children 10 and under free. For more info call 931-686-2693 or 686-3436.

Final Sparta Little League Signup

FINAl signups for the Sparta Little League will be held on Feb. 20 at the White County Agriculture Building at the fairgrounds from 8:00 until 2:00. This is for Baseball, Boys(7-12 years); Softball Girls (7-16 years); and Tee-ball co-ed(5 &6 years). Boys must be 5 before May 1 2010 and girls must be 5 before Jan. 1, 2010. If you did not play Little League last year you must furnish a photocopy of a certified birth certificate. There is a fee of $25 for the first child in a household. An additional $10 for child 2 and 3, with the fourth and up being free.

SHIP and SMP Volunteers Needed

The Upper Cumberland is in need of volunteers for State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) and Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP). SHIP and SMP volunteers help seniors understand Medicare and find appropriate insurance coverage. They also provide education to Medicare beneficiaries on possible fraud and abuse issues. Volunteers can contribute as much or as little time as they wish, and training is provided. If you are interested in learning about Medicare and helping disabled or older adults please consider volunteering. If you are part of an organization or club who meets and would benefit from a presentation on our volunteer program, or for more information contact Stacia Drouillard, SHIP/SMP Volunteer Coordinator with Upper Cumberland Development District at (931)432-4111 ext. 247.

Fundraiser Supper & Auction

A supper and auction will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2010, in the Spencer Civic Center with all proceeds going to Van Buren County High School 2010 Project Graduation. Any volunteers or class members who can assist with this fundraiser are asked to call 931-409-2568 or 931-815-8511. All donations are greatly appreciated.

Church Revival Scheduled

There will be a Revival at Clarks Chapel Church of God with Reverend Jerry Merviers as speaker. The Revival will be held Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, February 24, 25, and 26, beginning at 6 p.m. each night. Everyone welcome.

Donations Needed for House Fire Survivors

Reed and Susan Haws lost their home and all their possessions in an early morning fire on Sunday, February 14, 2010. Donations are being accepted at the Burritt Memorial Library in Spencer. Men’s sizes are 42-30, XL shirts, women’s sizes are 14 slacks and L tops. Any household items, clothing or donations would be of great assistance to this couple.
