Jesus is the Bread of Life Ministry

Rosco and Marie Rigsby are operating a “Bread Ministry” on Thursdays in Spencer. It opens at 9:30 and continues until all the bread has been distributed. Operating only on donations received, this ministry is in Sue’s Thrift Store on College Street in Spencer. Everyone is welcome to come by and pick up what they can use. The items vary from week to week. For more information, call 615-215-8066.

Monthly Meeting of Mountain Lodge No 766

Mountain Lodge No. 766 F & M, Spencer will meet the first Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. (behind the Burritt Memorial Library Building). All Master Masons are invited.

Assistant D.A. Schedules Meetings in VBC

Assistant D.A. Randall Gilliam will be at the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department every second and fourth Thursday after General Sessions Court (after the lunch hour) until 4 p.m. He will be available to answer or assist with any criminal issues or procedures.

American Legion Post 207 Meeting in Spencer

The American Legion Post 207 meets every 3 rd Thursday of the month at 6 p. in the Spencer Civic Center. All veterans are invited. For more information, please call 686-7759.

Van Buren County Youth Association Basketball sign-ups

The Van Buren County Youth Association will be taking Basketball sign-ups at the Administrative building November 7, and November 14 from noon to 2:00 pm. with the cost at $25.00 per child, ages 3-18. All applications must be submitted by November 14.

Burritt College Alumni Building Opening to Public

The Burritt College Alumni Building will be open the second and fourth Fridays of every month, beginning October 9, 2009, October 23, November 13, etc… from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. each day. Everyone is welcome to stop by and visit. Also volunteer work is needed.

United Community Church of Spencer

United Community Church of Spencer (located 1 mile on captain carter Rd.) will have a gospel singing Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 7:00 pm featuring “Glory Mountain Singers” Everyone is welcome.

Beautiful Christmas Craft Fair

The Christmas Craft Fair will be held November 7 th, 8:00 am. until 4:00 pm. in the Spencer Civic Center, the event will have crafts, food, baked goods and gifts. Come out and enjoy the day. For more information call 931-686-2512.

Van Buren County High School Alumni Game Scheduled

The Van Buren County Alumni Game has been set for November 7th at 6:00.

Those interested in the alumni game can contact Craig Chandler for the boys game at 931-316-1252 or Cheryl Cole for the girls game at the high school at 931-946-2442.

Veterans Dinner to be Hosted by Chamber of Commerce

The local Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a recognition dinner for Veterans on Saturday, November 14, 2009, beginning at 5p.m. in the Spencer Civic Center. All Veterans who can attend are invited to bring a guest and come enjoy a short program and meal. It is requested Veterans planning to attend call the Chamber at 946-7033 to reserve your seats no later than Monday, November 9, 2009.

Commodity Distribution for Van Buren County

The Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency (UCHRA) will hold a commodities distribution for Van Buren County on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Old Spencer Elementary School Gymnasium. Everyone must present a valid UCHRA commodity card in order to receive commodities. Persons may receive commodities for a total of three (3) households if valid cards are presented at the distribution. The U.S.D.A.'s Temporary Emergency Food Assistance Program is available to all recipients regardless of race, color, national origin, age, sex or handicap.

Rescue Squad Spaghetti Dinner and Auction

The Van Buren County Rescue Unit will be hosting a Spaghetti Dinner and Auction on Saturday, November 21, 2009, in the Spencer Civic Center. There will also be special entertainment for everyone to enjoy. Meal will include spaghetti, bread, dessert and drink for $6 and will begin being served at 4 p.m. with the auction to begin at 6 p.m. Everyone encouraged to come support your local Rescue Unit. All donations greatly appreciated.

Cedar Grove Fire Dept. Benefit Supper & Auction

Cedar Grove Fire Department will be hosting a benefit Supper and Auction on Saturday, November 21, at the CIC. Supper starts at 4 p.m. and will include ham or turkey and dressing and all the trimmings. Auction will start at 6 p.m.

Veterans Invited as American Legion Post 207 Meet

Members of Spencer American Legion Post 207 are meeting at the Old Times Café (Mooneyham’s) Saturday, November 7, 2009, at 8:00 a.m. for breakfast. All veterans are invited to attend and share this time of fellowship. Participants must buy their own breakfast.

We Can Get Fit Van Buren County

The We Can Get Fit Wellness Program will begin Tuesday, November 17, 2009 thru April 27, 2010 at the Van Buren County Civic Building this program is to encourage healthy eating, lifestyles, and exercise Prizes will be awarded monthly with free snacks and Fun ! Classes will be held on the specified Tuesday of the month starting at 5:30 pm. First meeting November 17, 2009 will be program orientation, forming teams, weight and height measurements, exercise and snacks. Program is open to all ages, however, anyone under 16 years of age must be accompanied by a parent of adult.

Bethlehem Church of Christ

Bethlehem church of Christ will be giving away free clothing, misc. and etc. to all needy families in Van Buren county on Sat. Dec. 5th (9:00am – 4:00 pm) in the basement of the church on Old Stat Hwy. 111 in the Piney Community “Remember it’s all FREE for you and your family” Any questions call Larry Bouldin at 946-7554, Dale Bouldin at 808-9157 or Kenny Baker at 946-2477.
