| Low Hanging Power Lines Result in Damage Sep 03 2010

Friday, August 27, 2010, just after 12 noon, a report came in of an accident involving a semi truck and electrical lines near the Van Buren County Fair Exhibit Building and Spring Street in Spencer. Eric Brown, 30, of Monroe, Tennessee was traveling north in front of the Exhibit Building, attempting to make a right turn onto Spring Street in order to travel east toward Highway 111, when the semi trailer’s right front corner caught low hanging power lines. The semi was hauling beer for a distributor, SEC.

| City Approves Budget and First Reading of Water/Sewer Rate Increase Sep 03 2010

The City of Spencer met on August 26, 2010, in regular session in the City Hall. This followed a Public Hearing, which was opened by Spencer City Mayor Greg Wilson. The Public Hearing was scheduled to allow the public to discuss the proposed operating budget for the fiscal year 2010-11. There were no comments regarding the proposed budget from the public and the hearing was closed.

| Local School System Moving Ahead with Building Projects Sep 03 2010

The Van Buren County School Board met for a Special Called meeting on Thursday, August 26, 2010, in the Central Office. Chairman Ricky Walling called the meeting to order, with all Board members present along with School Director Mike Martin.
The only item on the agenda was the review of plans and construction modifications as proposed by Cope and Associates and any decision regarding the bid received for the Multipurpose Room and High School addition.
