Van Buren County High School Claims State Archery Championship for Second Year in a Row

The fourth annual Tennessee National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) State Championships was held Thursday, February 25, 2010, in the Tennessee Miller Coliseum located in Murfreesboro, TN. More than 800 students registered for this event, marking the second year Van Buren County schools have had teams to participate.
The NASP State Championships were announced following the competition of all three divisions; elementary, middle school and high school, with awards presented shortly after 6 p.m.
All three defending team champions from last year were present to defend their respective titles. Van Buren County High School, in addition to winning the high school division, was honored for posting the best overall team score in 2009.

Early Saturday morning, February 27, 2010 around 5:00am a fire broke out in a home on C & R Rd. Piney Fire Department was paged with Spencer Fire Department and Cedar Grove Fire Department paged as mutual aid. Piney Engine 1602 arrived on scene to find a small flame near the front door of a trailer with little smoke showing. An interior attack was made through the front door; and the fire was quickly extinguished. Heavy fire damage was contained to 1 bedroom and the hall outside the bedroom.  [more]

On Tuesday, February 23, 2010, the Van Buren County High School’s FFA Skills Team participated in the Highland Rim District Skills Contest in Hyder-Burkes Agriculture Pavilion at TTU. Local students did amazingly well, claiming the Championship.

The Van Buren County High School Eaglettes played in the Regional Tournament again this year. In the Region 3-A, Van Buren County ended up number three. What an accomplishment for this young team. It didn’t just happen overnight. If you ask the coaches or any of the players, you will most likely hear that it took lots of practice and hours of hard work to reach Regionals.
