18 Wheeler overturns on Hwy
30 headed East, spilling
load of Emulsifying agent.

Just after 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2009, an 18-wheeler was headed west on Highway 30, down the mountain toward Spencer, when it left the roadway and flipped over onto its side. The accident was actually inside an area of Fall Creek Falls State Park which was added to the park acreage in 1994. The tanker truck, owned by Slurry Paver, INC of Richmond, Virginia, was carrying an emulsifying agent used on chipped roads from a work site in Mooneyham to another site when the accident occurred. It is believed the liquid being carried, which is high in water content, may have started to slosh inside the tank side to side and caused the truck to tip over.

“A Victory for the People” says D.A.

Jul 03 2009

“This is a real victory for the people,” said District Attorney Lisa Zavogiannis. “The people stood together and made the difference, letting their voices be heard.”

D.A. Zavogiannis was referring to the denial of a Certificate of Need for the proposed Methadone Clinic planned for Spencer. For several months Private Clinic North’s CED J. Paul Connell had worked to establish a Methadone Clinic in Spencer. It seemed to all hinge on the approval or denial of a Certificate of Need for the facility, with a decision made by the State of Tennessee Health Services and Development Agency Board on June 24, 2009.
